Resolution of a Post-Surgical Blood Clot with Homeopathic Support

After undergoing hip surgery, a patient developed a significant post-surgical complication: a 7.4 cm blood clot (deep vein thrombosis) in the left leg. Following standard medical protocol, anticoagulant therapy was prescribed to prevent the clot from extending or migrating to the lungs.

At the six-month follow-up, ultrasound imaging revealed that the clot had not changed in size. Although it remained stable, it had not resolved, leaving the patient at risk of needing indefinite anticoagulation, along with its potential side effects such as bleeding and bruising.

Integrating Homeopathy

At this stage, homeopathic care was introduced as a complementary approach. The remedy Hamamelis 30C was selected and taken once daily.

Hamamelis, often described in homeopathic materia medica as “the Arnica of the veins”, is known for its affinity with the venous system. It is indicated for venous engorgement, bruised soreness, and hemorrhagic conditions, making it a logical choice for a stubborn, unresolved venous clot. The remedy is often used to encourage repair of damaged veins, assist in the absorption of blood clots, and reduce vascular congestion.

Results

Two months after beginning Hamamelis, a repeat ultrasound (eight months after the initial diagnosis) showed complete resolution of the clot. The treating physician confirmed the patient’s stability, and anticoagulation therapy was safely discontinued.

Reflections

This case highlights the potential role of homeopathy as an adjunct to conventional care in complex vascular conditions. Where standard therapy had plateaued, Hamamelis appeared to stimulate the body’s natural capacity for healing and clot resolution.

Its outcome aligns closely with classical homeopathic descriptions of Hamamelis as a remedy for venous pathology, particularly where bruised, congested, or hemorrhagic states persist despite conventional management.

Takeaway

While anticoagulants are essential for stabilizing clots and preventing complications, this case illustrates how homeopathy may provide an additional layer of support, encouraging the body’s own restorative mechanisms and offering a path toward full recovery.
